Lauterbach & Associates, Architects was selected by Mercy Housing California to perform full architectural services for this affordable senior and family housing project. The St. Vincent's site, formerly a Daughters of Charity school, was annexed into the City of Santa Barbara after an extensive review process. This process involved not only governmental agencies but also the community. In the process an architectural program was developed that met the needs of both the future residents and the neighborhood around the project. The project includes 75 family residential units in 4, 5, 6 and 7 plex units of 2, 3, and 4 bedrooms. The senior portion has 95 one bedroom units. The site has extensive trail systems and athletic fields, and also several play areas for younger children. The community space complements an existing indoor swimming pool by adding conference rooms, computer learning center, a full kitchen and two meeting rooms. The intent is to preserve and/or restore the landscaping to its original "Old Santa Barbara" feel.
